Astrology
Saturday, April 11, 2009 at 11:11AM My fascination with astrology started in 1978 when I picked up Linda Goodman'sLove Signs. I wanted to know more about attractions between people. What worked and why? In the 80's I published a magazine,Single Scene. In the 90's I edited Evolving Timesmagazine and a few doors down was Sam Heaton's Cheshire Rose Books - a store specializing in astrology books and computer programs. Sam, Alannah, and Debi were my first readers, then my teachers. I also had the good fortune to take classes from astrological luminaries (let me drop same names here): Steven Forrest, Noel Tyl, Jeff Green, Demetra George, Goergia Stathis, Dana Gerhardt and Michael Lutin.
Michael Lutin said, "People need metaphors. The person who tells me it was the best reading they ever had, didn't get it - it went over their heads. The person who looks out the window as he's leaving, and says 'it's raining out...' got it, and is absorbing and digesting the information they just received."As a former gypsy (a past life recall), I swore I would not do readings this lifetime because people don't want to hear the truth - they want to hear what they want to hear - more love, more money, etc. I've sort of gotten over it and have had one paying client so far. Metaphors, yes... I've applied Michael's statement to my life - personal, work, writing, consulting.
Alannah Faschel led a weekly astrology group in Sacramento that focused on current transits. We studied the Thursday night chart each week and how those transits affected each of our charts. It was astrological therapy. I worked on recalling what had happened when that planet transited my chart in a previous cycle, how can I learn from it, and do it differently this time? I learned about dispositers, and what rules what. I loved those weekly groups!
Steven Forrest's teachings have had a big impact. Steve's "Evolutionary" approach is soul centered and I've continued my Evolutionary Astrology studies this past year with Joyce Van Horn in San Francisco - getting deeply into the nodes (old patterns to let go, new growth experiences to pursue), and into a new area for me: progressions and solar arcs. I'm now an official "Steven Forrest Apprentice." Joyce and I have formed a partnership on Steven Forrest's NoCal Apprenticeship Program and created Gossamer Rings (after the Gossamer Ring around Jupiter which is two rings embedded in one). Our website is up! We are hosting Steven's AP 9/09 retreat in Calistoga. Many new people to meet, and much more FUN on the horizon!
